DCAU #124: Harley and Ivy and... Robin?

IN THIS ONE... Poison Ivy turns Robin into her love slave and makes him commit crimes with her and Harley.

CREDITS: Written by Paul Dini and Ty Templeton; art by Rick Burchett.

REVIEW: Ivy and Harley make a great pairing, but can a man come between them? That's exactly what happens when Ivy puts a spell on Robin and he starts hanging out with them at the ol' greenhouse. Sure, he's useful in a burglary situation, but it doesn't take long before he takes up too much of Ivy's time for Harley's tastes. There's even a sequence where we're left to believe they're having sex until it's revealed it's just a foot massage. While Robin is shirtless. And Ivy is wearing nothing but a towel. Let your inner Tarantino fly, eh?

Ivy really does take Harley for granted in this story, hanging with her boy-toy while Harley is left carrying heavy bags, racing after getaway cars, etc. So of course, she's the one who'll have to break the spell and trick Dick into drinking the antidote. Ivy's got more lipstick, but Robin drinks so much of Harley's spiked lemonade, he can fight off the effects. Amusing, he spends the last act with lipstick on his face.

And there's a couple more things to amuse in this story. Like finding out Harley's hyenas--sorry, babies--are kept in the Gotham zoo while its "parents" in institutionalized. They also figure in a pretty sweet hyena-Batman fight. And Harley's a very expressive character.
REREADABILITY: Medium - A fun romp featuring the Gotham Girls.
