Who Digs Supergirl's Strange Hobby?

Hobby? Or outright obsession? Remember Supergirl's first attempt at joining the Legion of Super-Heroes in Action Comics #267? Having to demonstrate her powers and worthiness, she does the unexpected: Burrow into the center of the Earth!

Yep. Burrow into the Earth seeking fantastic treasures. And later in the story, she needs to hide some kryptonite before Superman comes across it while she's still protected by Brainiac 5's force field, and...

I know there are some people who disagree with the idea that Superman and co were too overpowered in the silver age, but Supergirl just casually flies over to another universe (presumably galaxy) millions of light years away from our own just to bury a chunk of rock.

She doesn't hide it in another country.

She doesn't hide it on Pluto.

She doesn't even go to another solar system.

She flies to another galaxy. Galaxy.

Of course, back then, writers used galaxy, solar system, universe and constellation pretty interchangeably.

Which doesn't it make it right.
