Kung Fu Fridays in August 2013

Five Fridays in August, and I really do have to take care of some business before summer is over - requests for sequels, a special marathon, and even a tribute to a fallen star. Let's see what the tea house has on tap for the month...

Tai Chi Hero - The vaguely steampunk, definitely parody, Tai Chi Zero ended on a cliffhanger, having my KFF Krew begging me to get the second part, which thankfully, was already available on DVD! We're starting the month off on the right foot. If your right foot were very silly.

Mad Detective - We're mad for all things Johnnie To, and this crime thriller about a slightly schizo retired police detective who must help a rookie solve a crime involving that crazy movie trope, split personality disorder, should make us even madder.

Stathamathon
- Sometimes I buy a boxed set, and then get the idea that I should watch the whole thing in one go, with friends. Jason Statham's crazier action flicks are definitely worthy of a KFF marathon, our last before school starts, and the schedule is simply chronological. That means Transporter on Friday, and then on Saturday from 12h30 or so, Transporter 2, Crank, War, Transporter 3 and The Mechanic. By my calculations, we should be done by not much later than 2200 hours.

Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance
- Another boxed set I got, although I'm not going to run through it all in one day, is the Lone Wolf and Cub film series, based on the famous samurai manga. If it's pleasant, the rest of the films will find themselves on the schedule at a rate of one a month.

Three the Hard Way - Jim Kelly, AKA Black Belt Jones, died in July, and we wanted to do a tribute to him. The one film of his still unwatched on the shelf is Three the Hard Way, a pure blaxploitation flick that teams him up with Fred Williamson and Jim Brown against super-villain level white supremacists, as directed by Gordon Parks Jr. whose biggest hit was Super Fly. Apparently, it has a pretty cool soundtrack, and its plot has been parodied in both Undercover Brother and Black Dynamite. Should be a hoot.

That 10 movies in August! Be there, or read the reviews on the following Sunday wrap-ups!
