Star Trek 1140: Into the Abyss

1140. Into the Abyss

PUBLICATION: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Hearts and Minds #3, Malibu Comics, August 1994

CREATORS: Mark A. Altman (writer), Rob Davis and Terry Pallot (artists)

STARDATE: 47295.9 (follows the last issue)

PLOT: Under Odo's direction, Quark sells his bar to the Seltari. This is a pretext for Odo to spy on her as she might have killed the Federation negotiator and evidence of Romulan involvement is uncovered. Speaking of pretexts, Dukat has called a Cardassian fleet to attack the Klingons and Bajor unless the Klingons stand down. In the Gamma Quadrant, Dax and Bashir find the wreckage of the K'Tang in the Abyss, orbiting a planet. They take the runabout down to a pyramid below and are soon captured by Romulans...

CONTINUITY: See previous issues (Rom, Dukat, Morn). Jake's video game features the Ambassador-class Enterprise (Yesterday's Enterprise).

DIVERGENCES: Though the K'Tang is said to be a K't'inga class ship, the wreckage is that of a a Vor'Cha class cruiser. Dax brags about Curzon's piloting skills when both Torias and Jadzia herself were better pilots (Playing God).

PANEL OF THE DAY - Star Trek predicted the Wii.
REVIEW: A fourth power is added to Altman's wide canvas as he manages to sustain the reader's interest in this third issue of the mini-series. And again, it's too bad Rob Davis makes the characters look bored through most scenes. Not to say it's always like that, and his outer space stuff is excellent, but yeah, kinda static. And yet, there are some great close-ups too, like Sisko catching a baseball out of the air. So I feel bad for complaining, but that's exactly why I am. It's just a NOTCH under excellent and I want it to be a notch above.
